Whether you like to be scared silly or just act silly, there's something at the Kenton County Public Library this month for you.
Halloween brings out the best in librarians and there is an array of programs - ranging from the scariest with a presentation from a ghost hunter - to the sweetest with the ever-popular Babes In Storyland Halloween party. Be sure to check out all of the interesting programs this month listed on the pages of this calendar.
You also might want to visit the Library's Local History department if you are looking for a ghostly tale to tell when sitting around a campfire. A search of the online Northern Kentucky Newspaper Index resulted in the following article exerpts:
IS IT A GHOST (NEAR HOLTERHOFF'S DISTILLERY)
Daily Commonwealth
July 11 1883 pg. 4
"Residents...are greatly aggitated about the appearance of a ghost which appears and disappears in one of the hollows on the common side each night....
Those who have seen the apparition describe it as a tall angular woman, attired in white, who slowly rises from the crevice of the hill-side, and with arms extended in the same direction, noiselessly glides along the ridge of the hill."
Are there ghosts lurking in your neighborhood? Search through the Library's Local History archives for newspaper articles, death records, photos and more. Go online to www.kentonlibrary.org/genealogy or visit the collection housed at the Mary Ann Mongan Library in Covington.
