Mary L. Mitchell Cady (~1834, Maysville, KY – September 27, 1888, Maysville, KY)
Great-granddaughter of Jacob Boone, a cousin of Daniel Boone, Cady discovered a love of poetry at the age of 15. She contributed several pieces of poetry to the Louisville Journal, the Saturday Evening Post, Willis’ Home Journal, Maysville Bulletin, and the Maysville Eagle. Cady married in 1854 to Jarvis Gladden Cady and after the birth of their children the family moved to Covington in 1870. Only five years later Cady’s husband died in Maysville’s Central Hotel, seemingly from an opium overdose. Cady died in 1888 and was buried in the Maysville and Mason Co. Cemetery.
