Racing to Read 5K Run & Walk 2008
 
Saturday, June 14 at 9 a.m.
 

Lace up your shoes and register for the Library's "Racing to Read" 5k Run and Walk. This fun, family-oriented event offers you the opportunity to run or walk through the beautiful, historical Covington historical and its' riverside neighborhood. After you finish, enjoy a free pancake breakfast in the Library's parking lot courtesy of First Watch restaurant.

Reasons to Run Racing to Read 5k:
Racing to Read 5K Enjoy a free First Watch breakfast after the race in the Library’s parking lot for all participants.
Racing to Read 5KGreat awards provided by Bob Roncker’s Running Spot, Better Bodies & Silverlake.
Racing to Read 5KParticipants receive an performance running T-shirt with registration, while supplies last.
Racing to Read 5KFree parking is provided in two parking garages next to the Library.
Racing to Read 5KFamily-friendly activities including a kids’ fun run, face painting and a special team competition!
Racing to Read 5KIt’s gone green with recycled products, a hybrid lead car from Lexus, solar powered demonstrations, recycling areas and more!
Racing to Read 5KNet proceeds from registrations and sponsor funding benefit the Kenton County Public Library Foundation's award-winning Read Racer preschool literacy initiative, which delivers books, reading materials, recordings and programs to over 2,500 preschool children in Kenton County daycares, preschools, and Head Start centers each month. FEES: Pre-registration: $20.00 (includes an adidas ® performance running t-shirt) or $75 per team (includes adidas ® performance running shirt for all team members)

Please make checks payable to: Kenton County Public Library Foundation. Postmark pre-registration by Friday, June 6 to: Racing to Read 5k Run & Walk, c/o Steve Prescott, P.O. Box 454, Mason, OH 45040.

Online Registration: Online registration closes June 11, 2008 at midnight. (there is a small additional charge for registering online)

PACKET PICK-UP: Packets will be available for pick-up the day of the race.

RACE DAY REGISTRATION: Begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Mary Ann Mongan Library in Covington $25, includes an adidas ® performance running T-shirt Family Teams: $85, includes an adidas ® performance running T-shirt for each team member. T-shirts available while supplies last.

AWARDS:
Racing to Read 5KOverall male and female runners and walkers receive a free six-month membership to Silverlake or Better Bodies, gift certificate for a free pair of shoes from Bob Roncker’s Running Spot, a book gift card and a flower bouquet.
Racing to Read 5KTop three male and female finishers in the running and walking age divisions receive a gift certificate to Bob Roncker’s Running Spot and a one-month pass to Silverlake or Better Bodies
Racing to Read 5KTop three teams in the family division receive a six-month family membership to Silverlake or Better Bodies and gift certificates to Bob Roncker’s Running Spot.
Racing to Read 5KA three-month membership to Silverlake or Better Bodies to be given to the winner of each age group

FIRST WATCH BREAKFAST: Enjoy a complimentary breakfast provided by First Watch in the Library’s parking lot.  Pancakes, muffins and more will be available after the race.

FAMILY FUN ACTIVITIES: There’s something for everyone at the Racing to Read 5k Run and Walk.  Children can enjoy face painting, participate in the Kids’ Fun Run and more, all for free.  The Kids’ Fun Run will begin immediately after the start of the 5k race.

TEAM CATEGORIES: Family: Any four members of a family can compete as a team. Each team member is required to fill out an individual registration form, and list all team members. All forms must be submitted together.

DIRECTIONS: Take 1-75/71 to Covington/Fifth Street Exit. Exit onto Fifth Street. Turn right onto Scott Boulevard. Library is on the corner of Scott and Fifth. Parking will be available for participants in the garage across the street from the Library, on the corner of Fifth and Scott. PLEASE NOTE that Scott will be closed beginning at 8:45 a.m. The parking garage will still be accessible from Fifth Street. Additional free parking is available by turning right onto Madison and then left onto Seventh. The parking garage will be on the left.

RESULTS: The results will be posted after the race at www.sprunning.com.

DIVISIONS: Running: Ages 14/under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-69, 70/over; Fitness Walking: Ages 29/under, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70/over.

PETS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED ON THE RACE COURSE.

The relatively flat, shaded 3.1 mile course begins and ends at the Mary Ann Mongan Library and goes through historic Covington and by the river.
