Margaret Estes (January 1908, Burnside KY – )
Estes was born in southern Kentucky but the family moved to the Clifton area of south Newport around 1920. Eventually Estes attended the University of Kentucky and became a elementary teacher in the Newport Schools. During this time she wrote poetry in her spare time. Most of her poems are religious in tone or have nature themes. After her marriage to her husband, a farmer by the name of Jennings Bryan Arvin, the two moved to Pembroke in Arvin’s native Christian County. All her life she worked on her poetry that was often influenced by her Methodist upbringing.
