Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL) eBook platform offers users access from any Internet-connected device or downloadable PDFs for offline reading, as well as text-to-speak technology. GVRL is a collection of encyclopedias and specialized reference sources for general research. These eBooks are available 24/7 with no checkout. Titles can be browsed, searched and downloaded anytime. Use “advanced search” to limit the target audience to “Children’s–Lower elementary” or “Children’s–Upper elementary”

A Scholastic Publishing resource targeted for Grades 3 and up includes nonfiction subjects, multimedia encyclopedia ,120,000 articles with Lexile levels, 340,000 editor vetted web links, an interface based on age, search results based on reading level, interactive maps, and today in history feature.

Overviews of and autobiographical essays by popular children’s authors and illustrators that typically cover personal life, career, writings, adaptations, and additional sources.

žAn interactive resource that let’s students read a True Book online then do activities related to the subject to reinforce and motivate learning.  Extras include videos, recommended websites, project ideas, lesson plans, and quizzes.  Subjects include social studies, history, and science.

  • PebbleGo Social Studies (Article ListPebbleGo is a PreK-3 database for reading and research. PebbleGo databases try to make learning and improving reading and research skills fun by building on children’s interest. Databases are simple to navigate and offer reading supports such as read-along audio and word-by-word highlighting. 
  • Encyclopedia Britannica Children Presents new information and gradually builds upon it, making reading and research more manageable for young users. Streamlined homepage enables kids to access content at their reading level in an age-appropriate environment.
