After 100 years of anticipation, dating back to the first book station in Pope’s Drugstore around 1910, the new Latonia Branch of the Kenton County Public Library is officially open. It is conveniently located at 3911 Winston Ave in the Latonia Commerce Center.
The 11,500 sq ft art-deco inspired facility boasts:

- A meeting room that seats 50 people.
- Two small study rooms.
- Desktop computers, printing, and large-format printing.
- Unique features: a fireplace, reading nook, “old‑tech” interactive area (typewriters, rotary phone, slide projector, vintage cameras), comfortable seating with charging stations and more.
- Programming includes yoga, meditation, storytimes, gardening and sustainability, cardboard engineering, ESL classes and more, as well as special events like a penguin visit from the Newport Aquarium and a Madcap Puppet Show.
Grand Opening Celebration
The June 10 ribbon-cutting ceremony featured local dignitaries including Covington’s Mayor, Kenton County Judge/Executive, library board members and Executive Director Dave Schroeder. More than 1600 community members visited, and 870 items were checked out on opening day.
“The outpouring of support from the community has been nothing short of incredible," says Dave Schroeder, director of the Kenton County Public Library. "Seeing so many people walk through the doors on opening day affirmed just how much this branch means to Latonia. I’m also deeply grateful to our staff, whose dedication, creativity and hard work made this vision a reality. This branch is a testament to what can happen when a community comes together around the power of learning, connection and access.”
