November includes some of the busiest travel weekends of the year, and whether you’re catching a flight at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG), or Cincinnati is your destination of choice, a little peaceful reading time can go a long way.
That’s why your local libraries—Kenton County Public Library (KCPL), Boone County Public Library, Campbell County Public Library and the Public Library of Cincinnati & Hamilton County have teamed up with CVG to offer the “Airport Library” in Concourse B. Located between gates B10 and B12, the space is a quiet little retreat right in the midst of the airport hustle. You’ll even find comfy seating — perfect for family travel, business trips or simply a moment of calm before you depart for your next destination.
“The Airport Library takes the spirit of a Little Free Library and gives it wings,” says Dave Schroeder, executive director of Kenton County Public Library. “We want people to experience reading and learning wherever they are, even on the go. Whether someone is discovering a new story for their flight or downloading digital materials to stay connected, this space offers travelers a welcoming place to explore, imagine and feel part of our community.”
Here are the highlights:
-
No library card? No problem. Grab a book, sit awhile or take it on your flight. The library operates like a Little Free Library, where there's no checkout required and you can simply return it when you're done by dropping it off at the Airport Library or any participating branch of the partner libraries.
-
Digital option: If you have a library card from one of the regional systems, you can download eBooks or audiobooks via the library apps (such as Libby, Hoopla and others) and enjoy them on your device.
-
It’s unique: This isn’t your typical branch-library experience. The space was converted from a location near the duty-free shop in Concourse B in mid-2023, and because it operates more like a “take a book, leave a book” spot, it’s always open and travelers can access it whenever they’re in the terminal.
-
Donation friendly: The partner libraries welcome gently used donations for the Airport Library (children’s books, adult fiction, biographies) but please, no encyclopedias, dictionaries or yearbooks, which are harder to circulate.
