The Pop-Up Library is an extension of the library beyond our walls—bringing books and meaningful connections directly into senior centers, community centers, housing facilities, and gathering spaces throughout the community. They are designed to remove barriers to access and create welcoming opportunities for engagement.
At each visit, library staff create an inviting and interactive environment where community members can browse and check out a curated collection of materials tailored to their interests and needs. Offerings may include large print books, audiobooks, DVDs, magazines, puzzles, and seasonal or themed collections. Patrons can sign up for library cards, place holds, receive personalized reading recommendations, and learn about the many free services and programs available through the library.
More than just a mobile collection of materials, the Pop-Up Library serves as a hub for connection, lifelong learning, and outreach. Staff provide assistance with technology questions, demonstrate digital resources such as eBooks and streaming services, and help individuals access information that supports independence, wellness, and enrichment.
A strong focus of outreach programming is serving older adults and individuals who may face barriers to accessing traditional library services. Staff bring materials and resources but also support and opportunities for social connection that help reduce isolation and strengthen community ties. Programs often include technology assistance and digital literacy instruction, helping participants gain confidence using smartphones, tablets, computers, eBooks, and online resources.
Through partnerships with local organizations, agencies, educators, historians, artists, and community experts, outreach programming also connects residents with valuable information, services, and enriching experiences.
Outreach Library Programming reflects the library’s commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and community engagement. By bringing high-quality programs and services directly into neighborhoods and shared spaces, the library creates opportunities for individuals to learn, connect, and thrive regardless of transportation, mobility, or other limitations. Every outreach visit is an opportunity to inspire curiosity, encourage lifelong learning, and strengthen the relationship between the library and the community it serves.
