Top 5 Things to Do at the Kentucky History and Genealogy Conference!
Hey, fellow history buffs and genealogy enthusiasts! The Kentucky History and Genealogy Conference is right around the corner, and I can already tell it’s going to be an amazing event! The conference takes place on Friday and Saturday, August 8th and 9th, 2025 at the Erlanger Branch of the Kenton County Public Library.
Whether you're just starting out with your family tree or you're a seasoned researcher, this conference has so much to offer. Here are my top 5 things you definitely want to check out when you attend:
1. Explore the Vendor Hall
If you’re anything like me, you can easily lose track of time exploring genealogy resources, and the vendor hall is packed with amazing opportunities. Local libraries, genealogy societies, authors and experts will be showcasing everything available at their repositories from online tools and resources to help you trace your family’s roots and their latest books about Kentucky history and genealogy topics. I'm already eyeing the booth where I hope to find answers and help for the missing link in my family tree!
2. Attend Expert-Led Presentations and Sessions
Whether you’re a newbie or a pro, the workshops are going to be a highlight. With topics like “How and When to Join a Lineage Society” and “All About Archives,” you’re bound to learn something new!
I’m especially looking forward to the opening keynote session "Where Goetta Meets Grits: Defining Northern Kentucky” by our very own Executive Director Dave Schroeder. There will be so many chances to ask questions and dive deeper into specific areas of research during the conference.
3. Network with Fellow Kentucky History and Genealogy Enthusiasts
The best part about any conference? The people you meet! The Kentucky History and Genealogy Conference is the perfect place to meet like-minded folks who share your passion for history. I hope you make some great connections and exchange tips on everything from historical research techniques to organizing family history files. Bonus: It’s a great way to make new friends who understand your excitement when you uncover a long-lost ancestor!
4. Dive into Kentucky’s Rich History
Kentucky is packed with fascinating history, and this conference is a great chance to learn more about the people, places, and events that shaped the state. From Revolutionary War connections to Civil War history, there’s no shortage of stories. If you're a history lover (who isn’t?), this is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the past and discover hidden nuggets about Kentucky's role in American history.
5. Don’t Forget to Pick Up A Special Kentucky History and Genealogy Conference Themed Button!
One of the cutest (and most collectible) things to do at the Kentucky History and Genealogy Conference is get your hands on genealogy, Kentucky, archives or library button! These little gems are more than just a fun souvenir, they are also a badge of honor for anyone passionate about family history and research. Buttons are available at the Kenton County Public Library table while supplies last!
The Kentucky History and Genealogy Conference is shaping up to be an event you don’t want to miss. Mark your calendars and get ready to learn, connect, and dive into Kentucky's rich history and genealogy. I can’t wait to see you there!
