How long does it take to receive an ILL item?

It can take one to eight weeks to receive the requested item.

Do you charge a fee for ILL?

KCPL does not charge a fee for this service.

If, however, the lending library charges, we will notify the patron before placing the request.

How long can I keep interlibrary loans?

The lending library determines the length of checkout time, usually, anywhere from two to six weeks.

Can items be renewed?

Renewals must be requested 5 days prior to actual due date.   The loaning library grants permission for renewals, not KCPL. Lending and Renewals are done solely at the discretion of the lending library—some renewal requests may be denied and an item can be recalled at any time.  If your item is non-renewable, “No Renewals” will be noted on the sticker.  KCPL has no control over initial due dates assigned.

You can call any of our reference desk for renewals:
Covington: 859-962-4071
Erlanger: 859-962-4002
William E. Durr: 859-962-4031

ILL Coordinator Varian Wilson, 859-962-4081

What are my responsibilities for overdue fees or a lost or damaged item?

Patrons, not KCPL, responsible for fines & materials lost or damaged.  Please help us to maintain positive borrowing and lending relationships with other libraries by returning your items on time and in good shape.

Please DO NOT REMOVE the ILL sticker, paper band, or any other paperwork affixed to the book.  They are essential for quickly and accurately processing and returning materials.

If you have additional questions please call the ILL Department at 859-962-4081, or email us.
