The Mary Ann Mongan Literacy Award was created in honor of Mary Ann Mongan. Ms. Mongan was the original executive director for the Kenton County Public Library district. She started her library career in 1958 as the manager of the Covington Library. When the Kenton County Public Library District was formed in 1967, Ms. Mongan was selected as the director. Ms. Mongan retired from this position after 41 years of service. Her dedication to literacy and libraries made her an inspiration for this award which was created in her honor in 2009.
Using the form below, nominate an individual or organization that has shown tremendous work in the area of literacy in Kenton County. The individual does not need to live in Kenton County but must work in Kenton County. Please refer to the video for examples of past recipients. Nominations will be open September 1-30.
You do not need to send supporting documents. The person nominated for the award will be notified and a video of the award recipient will be made and presented at a time TBD (shhh…it’s usually a surprise for the winner!).
The recipient of the award will receive a $250 check from the Kenton County Public Library Foundation, along with an award and recognition on a plaque located at the library.
Thank you to everyone who submitted an entry for 2023!
