Coney Island Closing Permanently

It was announced today, December 14, that Coney Island is closing forever. Coney Island has been operating since 1886. Sunlite Pool was added in 1925. The amusement park rides were removed in 2019. At that time, they wanted to focus strictly on the water attraction. In March of this year, they announced the addition of fowling and pickleball courts.

Coney has been a staple in Cincinnati. It offered rides, events like Summer Fair, the largest circulating pool in the US, Night of Lights holiday display, the Balloon Glow, company picnics and music at Moonlight Gardens. You would be hard-pressed to find anyone in Greater Cincinnati over the age of 10 who has never been there.

We found several photos from Coney Island in the library's Faces and Places collection. Anyone can share our photos as long as the library is given credit.

Do you have a photo from Coney Island that you would like us to share on Faces and Places? Submit it to history@kentonlibrary.org. Be sure to include any details you might have, like names and dates.

What is your favorite memory from the park?
