KCPL Joins Kentucky Libraries in Frankfort for Library Legislative Day

On Thursday, February 12, 2026, Kenton County Public Library joined libraries and library supporters from across the Commonwealth in Frankfort for Kentucky’s annual Library Legislative Day, a day focused on strengthening relationships with lawmakers and sharing the impact libraries deliver in Kentucky communities.

During the day at the Capitol, KCPL met with members of the Kentucky General Assembly to talk about what KCPL does, why it matters to reconnect with legislators at least once per year, and how the library’s role continues to evolve as community needs change. The team also thanked legislators for their past support of libraries and the difference that support makes for Kenton County residents.

KCPL’s team included Dave Schroeder, Executive Director, Paul Duryea, Latonia Branch Manager, Denise Fritsch, Manager of Career & Job Services, along with librarians Mattie Richards and Brandon Bryant. Together, they shared a quick snapshot of KCPL’s work — from meeting kids’ needs in Latonia and strengthening childhood literacy through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to expanding community programming, workforce development and practical services residents rely on like the STREAM Center, notary services and passport application and photo services.

"Public libraries keep adapting because communities keep changing, and that’s why innovation matters,” said Dave Schroeder, executive director of Kenton County Public Library. “At KCPL, we’re focused on innovative ways to connect people with what they need today, while staying ready for what’s next. We’re grateful for the legislators who have supported libraries over the years, and we believe it’s important to keep that relationship strong by reconnecting at least once a year and sharing the innovative work happening in our branches and across our community.”
