Did you know that some of the most meaningful library moments happen outside the walls of Kenton County Public Library’s branches?
A child lights up when KCPL’s Racing to Read vehicle pulls into their school parking lot. A senior in a retirement community finds comfort in a favorite author delivered right to their door. A homebound patron feels a little less isolated because someone remembered that stories, connection and care still matter.
Today is National Library Outreach Day.
Celebrated during National Library Week, this day recognizes the library staff who bring services directly into the community, meeting people where they are and making sure access to books, resources and support doesn’t depend on whether someone can walk through our doors.
At Kenton County Public Library, outreach is one of the most personal ways we serve.
Our Outreach Branch helps ensure the library reaches every corner of Kenton County. Through Homebound Delivery, patrons who can’t visit a branch can still receive books, movies and other materials they love. Staff visit senior living communities and congregate care facilities, creating moments of connection through reading and conversation.
Programs like Racing to Read help spark a love of learning for children by bringing books and literacy support directly into schools and neighborhoods.Our School Services team helps students and educators stay connected to the resources they need to learn, grow and succeed. ESL services create welcoming spaces for English language learners to build confidence, practice conversation and feel more at home in the community.
Sometimes outreach looks like a delivery. Sometimes it looks like a conversation. Sometimes it looks like showing up right when the community needs you.
But it always means the same thing: reminding people they belong here.
On National Outreach Day, we celebrate the people who carry that mission beyond our walls and into the lives of others every single day.
