Water you doing in October?
Water is the basis for all life on planet Earth, which means it is important for us to use it wisely. This October, we invite those in grades K-12 to create art that helps spread the word about why storm water management is important. Enter the Storm Water Reading and Art Contest, opens a new window co-sponsored by Sanitation District No. 1 and Kenton County Public Library for your chance to win prizes and have your art reproduced as a bookmark for distribution throughout the county.
To enter the contest, all you need to do is:
- Read at least three books about water, storm water, water pollution or related topics and record them on a book log. Book logs can be picked up at any KCPL branch location beginning on October 1, 2026.
- Design a bookmark related to storm water, water pollution or other environmental water subjects (rivers, oceans, etc.) in the space provided on the log.
- Submit your log with book titles and art to any KCPL branch location by November 1, 2026.
If your art is selected, you will receive some cool SD1 and KCPL merch, an eco-friendly prize and have your winning art recreated as a bookmark that will be given out to community members at future events. Winners will be notified by November 19, 2026 and will be selected from each of the following groups:
- Grades K-2
- Grades 3-5
- Grades 6-8
- Grades 9-12
To help get you started, below are some water-related titles that you can check out at the library. If you're interested in a different title, there are so many more to choose from! Connect with a librarian during your next library visit for additional recommendations.
