Faces and Places: Looking back at the Beverly Hills Supper Club Fire

This week marks the 49th anniversary of the tragic fire at the Beverly Hills Supper Club on May 28, 1977.  It remains one of the most devastating events in Northern Kentucky history. The blaze claimed 165 lives and injured more than 200 people, forever changing the region and leading to major changes in fire safety laws across the country.

At the time, the club was one of the area’s premier entertainment destinations, drawing large crowds to see nationally known performers. On the night of the fire, the venue was packed well beyond capacity as guests gathered for dinner, dancing and a performance by entertainer John Davidson. Investigators later pointed to overcrowding, inadequate exits and numerous fire safety deficiencies that contributed to the scale of the tragedy.

Nearly five decades later, the memories of that night still resonate throughout Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. Survivors, first responders and families of victims continue to share their stories, ensuring the tragedy is never forgotten.

Kenton County Public Library’s Faces & Places local history archive includes a large collection of photographs connected to the Beverly Hills Supper Club fire, preserving an important piece of local history for future generations.
