A powerful storm system swept through Northern Kentucky and the Greater Cincinnati area on Tuesday, toppling trees and large limbs, blocking roads and scattering debris across neighborhoods. Covington was among the hardest-hit communities, leaving residents and crews with significant cleanup work on Wednesday.
The Kenton County Public Library may be able to help.
Empower Tools, KCPL’s Covington-based tool-lending service, gives library cardholders access to more than 300 tools, including equipment that can be especially useful following storms. The collection includes chainsaws, water pumps, fans, ladders, saws, drills, garden equipment and other tools that can help with clearing debris, trimming damaged branches and tackling cleanup projects around the home.

Best of all, there is no charge to borrow the tools. Only a Kenton County library card is needed to check out tools.
Empower Tools is located at the Hellmann Creative Center, 321 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Covington. It will be open today, Wednesday, from 4-7 p.m.
How Empower Tools Works
KCPL cardholders age 18 and older with full-access accounts in good standing can borrow up to three tools at a time for seven days. First-time borrowers should bring a valid ID and cell phone and complete the Empower Tools Borrower’s Agreement before checking out equipment.
Tools are available on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be placed on hold or renewed.

Don’t Have a Library Card?
This is a good time to get one.
Adults can apply for a KCPL library card online or visit any Kenton County Public Library branch. Kenton County residents are eligible, and residents of nearby Ohio counties and other Kentucky counties may also qualify for a card. Applicants who apply online will receive notification after their application is processed, while those applying inside a library can obtain their card immediately.
A library card provides access to much more than books. From digital resources and technology to equipment like Empower Tools, KCPL provides resources that can save residents money and help when an unexpected need arises.
